The Yamaha X-Max 125cc

Two months on from my big crash and the demise of my poor little Dylan, my injuries had healed, I was heading back to work and so thoughts turned to a replacement bike.

I had initially thought of going down the geared route, however three hours spent on a Honda CG while trying to do my CBT (see separate page for full details) convinced me that gears were just not form me.  By pure chance I had been in central Edinburgh one day and noticed a Yamaha X-Max 250cc parked in George Street.  I'd never seen this machine before but it immediately struck me as solid looking and very stylish.  I quickly discovered that Yamaha produced a 125cc version which was identical in terms of body dimensions to the 250cc.

The next problem was getting one !  I contacted Alan Duffus, a main Yamaha dealer in Scotland, but was told there were none available and new supplies were not due until July at the earliest.  This was frustrating, however I happened to mention the situation on the maxi-muppets scooter forum (there is a link in the Scooter Websites section - it's a great site) and I was contacted by a fellow member who had a silver X-Max for sale !  He had graduated up to the T-Max and had hoped his son might show an interest in the smaller capacity bike, but this was not to be.  The bike only had 700 miles on the clock and was basically brand new.  We quickly agreed a price and on Saturday 23rd June the bike arrived at my house.

Initial impressions, and I've only had it a couple of days, are of a big, powerful bike that handles superbly.  Corners and roundabouts are taken with ease, none of the twitchyness that can affect smaller wheeled scooters.  It looks and feels like a real gem.
