The Bajaj Spirit 50cc On the 19th March 2003 a very large wooden crate was delivered to my front door, and inside was a gleaming new Bajaj Sprit 50cc scooter. The total price was a mere £695 OTR plus £70 delivery, all done through the Bajaj UK importers website, www.bees-europe.com . That evening after closing time I wheeled the bike across the road from my house and into the floodlit expanse of my local ASDA car park and fired it up. What amazed me was how safe I felt zipping around, completely unlike my experiences in a car which had always induced a feeling close to terror ! Greatly encouraged by this I waited patiently until the following Sunday, got up very early and with my heart beating just a little faster than normal, I headed off to Edinburgh to test the bikes commuting ability. Considering I had never traveled any distance on a PTW in my life the ride went very smoothly and roughly 50 minutes later I was parked in George Street and enjoying the dubious delights of an early morning Burger King. I don't think I'll ever forget the great feeling of satisfaction it gave me to successfully and safely take what for me as an avowed pedestrian was a big step.
